The Coastal Bend Blood Center is urging people to donate blood with their supply being critically low.
According to the Blood Center, summer has been a slow time of the year because the majority of their donations come from students during the school year.
The Blood Center needs a constant supply because the shelf life of blood is only 42 days.
Ashley Ramirez with the Coastal Bend Blood Center said the mass shooting tragedies that happened over the weekend are a reminder of the importance of keeping blood banks stocked.
"We need our donors," Ramirez said. "We need our community to come out to support your blood center because you never know. It might hit home one day. For example, these horrifying tragedies. This is something that can occur at any time, and you never know when you might need it."
The Blood Center has mobile units around the Coastal Bend seven days a week where people can donate.
