Local businessman Mauricio Celis was back in court Tuesday. He was convicted of falsely holding himself out as a lawyer back in 2010, and of identifying himself as a police officer.
On Tuesday, Celis officially began his 10-year probated sentence, and while he will have to abide by the standard conditions of probation, District Judge Guy Williams did allow Celis to travel throughout the country and even to Mexico. Celis' attorney said he has most of his business dealings there.
The judge could have sentenced Celis to up to 180 days in jail, but instead, he went with a 30-day sentence. However, all of that time was suspended, meaning Celis will not actually go to jail unless he violates the conditions of his probation.
Still, his legal problems are not over. Celis still faces upcoming trials on charges of theft and money laundering.
