Corpus Christi businessman Ed Hicks dies peacefully at 84

A scholarship will be established in his name at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's College of Business.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Ed Hicks, a prominent Corpus Christi businessman, has died following a battle with heart complications, according to his son Charlie Hicks.

Hicks passed away peacefully Thursday morning in Houston. He was 84.

Hicks opened his first car dealership in Corpus Christi back in the 1960's. The brand grew to include several locations in the Coastal Bend -- the family-run businesses Ed Hicks Nissan, Mercedes, and Infiniti, and most recently a Subaru dealership.

A scholarship will be established in his name at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's College of Business.

Hicks was a co-founder of the Corpus Christi Police Foundation. Executive Director of the Police Foundation, Cissy Garcia, says "he had this passion for safety in our community that literally drove him to support the men and woman in blue in our police department." 

Funeral services are pending, but the family says they will be private.
