Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal said Wednesday that the time has come to consider creating more space for the growing population in the Nueces County Jail.

The announcement came at the heels of a near-capacity day at the jail. The population was at 93-percent, dangerously close to capacity and leaving the Nueces County Sheriff no choice but to furlough non-violent inmates in order to make space available.

Kiii News Anchor Rudy Trevino was there for Wednesday's announcement and came back with the details.
