The City of Corpus Christi began installing over 300 new parking meters downtown about a month ago, and they now take credit cards.

"We're noticing that people that use the credit card access generally are paying four times more than people paying with change," said Marc Denson, City Parking Control Supervisor. "Which is saying, instead of people gambling, they would rather pay the meter than a ticket."

The credit card meters are also helping reduce the amount of parking tickets written out. Nationally, cities see a 37-percent drop in citations because of the meter's versatility.
