Court Docs: Suspects were trying to break up argument before woman shot in head

Four men have been arrested for the shooting death of 39-year-old Lisa Santos back on July 11.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Arrest affidavits acquired by 3News Friday shed light on the latest homicide to happen in Corpus Christi, which claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman from Alice, Texas.

The documents indicate that the four men currently in police custody for the shooting of 39-year-old Lisa Santos back on July 11 were attempting to break up an argument between her and her boyfriend.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, it was just before 10 p.m. Thursday, July 11, when officers were dispatched to the area of Cleo and Headley streets. There they found Santos in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. She was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital where she died from her injuries the following day.

On July 16, 29-year-old Larry Ramos was arrested on a warrant for murder after police spotted him in the 1400 block of Coahuila. However, police were still looking for information about a four-door grey vehicle seen speeding from the scene on the night of the shooting. Then, police said three others turned themselves in at the Nueces County Jail on Thursday, July 25. They have been identified as Rayvon Rodriguez, Arnold Riojas and Gilbert Cuevas.

Arrest affidavits reveal that investigators identified Ramos as the shooter, and Riojas as the driver of the grey vehicle seen fleeing the scene.

According to the court documents, the four suspects were attempting to purchase an air conditioning unit from a resident on Headley Street when they noticed Santos and her boyfriend arguing down the street. One of them yelled at Santos’ boyfriend “to knock it off and leave her alone,” and when the argument didn’t stop, three or four gunshots were fired into the air.

The documents state that Ramos fired the shots.

After the shots were fired, the four men got back into the vehicle and drove to the intersection of Cleo and Headley streets, where Santos and her boyfriend were still arguing. They confronted Santos’ boyfriend, and witness say he approached the vehicle and more shots were fired, this time striking Santos in the head.

All four men were arrested on warrants for murder.
