The Aransas Pass Police Department conducted a series of sting operations over the first weekend of Spring Break by sending minors into businesses to attempt to purchase alcohol.

Of the 16 businesses that were targeted, two failed.

According to police, the sting operations were conducted on Saturday, March 12. In each operation, a minor was sent into the business to try and purchase alcohol while in the presence of an Aransas Pass police officer.

Two locations -- the Walgreens Pharmacy in the 2700 block of West Wheeler Avenue and the Taqueria Guadalajara in the 500 block of South Commercial Street -- failed. The employees that sold the alcohol to the minors, Milfred Zeno and Karina Romero-Diaz, were both arrested.

Aransas Pass police posted the results of their sting operation online and recognized the companies that did not fail during the sting operations. Those companies include:

  • Sunrise Market
  • Country Store
  • Taqueria San Juan's
  • Stripes #7028
  • Spanky's Liqour
  • Dollar General #3840
  • HEB
  • Stripes #2223
  • Redfish Willies
  • Valero Corner Store #427
  • El Mexicano
  • Taqueria Mexico
  • Snappy Foods
  • Walmart #454

APPD had this message for the businesses that passed: "Thank you for your hard work and commitment to keeping our community's children safe this Spring Break season!"

In the meantime, both Zeno and Romero-Diaz face charges of selling alcohol to a minor.
