District Attorney Mark Skurka confirmed Friday that he will be seeking the death penalty for Brendon Gaytan and Cruz Salazar, the two men charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of two little girls Feb. 16 on Cheryl Drive.
Both appeared in the 347th District Court Friday morning with requests for the judge. Gaytan requested that his bond be reduced from $2 million, but that request was denied by Judge Missy Medary. However, Medary did approve Salazar's motion to sever, meaning that the two suspects will be tried separately.
The two men were arrested on Feb. 28 at an apartment in the 800 block of Indiana Avenue. They were both charged with capital murder for shooting and killed six-year old Nevaeh Oliva and two-year old Lilliana Valent.
