Drunk driving rates are up this year in the Coastal Bend. DWI arrests have increased by 36% according to the district attorney's office. DA Mark Skurka says those who get behind the wheel intoxicated will pay a price.

"They can faces charges. Anything up for a regular DWI that has six months in jail to up to 20 year sentence in prison," said Skurka. "If you drive drunk and you kill somebody, you could be facing up to 20 years in prison. That's a sobering thought and should keep these people from doing this type of activity."

Since May 30th of this year, more than 600 people have been arrested for driving while intoxicated in Corpus Christi. One year ago, that number was just over 400.
