A Corpus Christi family is staying in temporary housing after a fire woke them up.

Crews responded to the blaze on Betel near the Crosstown Expressway around 2 a.m.

The garage was destroyed.

AEP crews were called out to cut power to downed lines in the area.

Two nearby homes were threatened, but firefighters were able to contain the blaze.

Battalion Chief Jeff Willis says calm winds helped contain the blaze.

"We're very fortunate that we didn't have the winds tonight that we had yesterday," Willis said.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
