Easter Bunny in Corpus Christi reaches new heights

Church of Hope has hosted the event for years

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Children lined up after church to watch the Easter Bunny hop out of the sky. With buckets in their hands, they patiently waited for him to make an appearance, from the sky.

"He was really close to me," Sofia Rivera , a churchgoer said.

Before he made his grand entrance, the Easter Bunny floated over Church of Hope in Calallen. The helicopter hovered over a grass field where the bunny emptied bags of plastic eggs for children to search through.

"Really fun, it's fun to hang out with your friends and have a good time on the bouncy houses and collect eggs," Rivera added.

The Egg Drop has taken place at the church for years. Anyone is invited to attend the church service and event afterwards. Children like Sofia Rivera and her friend Madelyn Avila have gone year after year.

"I'm excited to get all the Easter eggs and all the candies," Madelyn said.

After the eggs are dropped, the bunny dove out of a plane. Organizers said he soared over 85 miles per hour, thousands of feet in the air. After he lands, the hunt began.

"Like everybody's screaming, they want him to come near you," Madelyn said.

Madelyn's older brother, Seth, kept a close eye on the different egg-hunt sites. There are different sections for age groups. He said although he is too old to enjoy the Easter egg hunt, he will never be too old to remember why they celebrate Easter.

"It's just awesome you know life changing great, and you know it's been so many years and so many people are just coming out and I just love it, I'm thanking God, he's done all this for us and it just means a lot to me," Avila said.
