Families celebrate Easter at Labonte Park

"We just play games and make some smores and then on Sundays we have this tradition every year. The egg toss tradition," Robstown resident Nicole Ramos said.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On Easter Sunday, Labonte Park was full of family, fun and good eats as hundreds of people camped out over the weekend to celebrate the holiday.

"We all get together and we do it," Robstown resident Frank Tijerina said. "We try to make it a tradition."

"We went to church this morning and and then we changed and came out here and we were doing Easter egg hunts and eating lots of barbecue," Monica Silva said.

Chicken, Brisket, sausage it was barbecue that made your mouth water as soon as you stepped into the park.

Some families make the holiday a weekend-long event trying to nab the best spot to celebrate.

"Come out here Friday night, camp out with the kids," Reol Ortega, a Robstown resident said. "Campfires. We come out Friday, Saturday night then we celebrate Easter here."

The sun was shining, the grills were hot, and the games were on.

 "Sack racing. egg toss and of course the Easter egg hunt," Robstown resident, Roger Perez said.

And there were plenty of cascarones.

But for many, Easter comes down to one thing.

"Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice," Perez said.

"It's all about the resurrection and god and Jesus and making just everything whole again," Ramos said.
