It's going to be a historic night Friday in Beeville as, for the first time ever, professional fighting comes to town.

The official fighter weigh-ins took place Thursday at the Stone Creek Restaurant in Beeville. The fighters hopped on the scale and faced their opponents eye-to-eye.

The Friday Night Fights will feature professional boxing and professional mixed martial arts.

"When we first had the ambition to come out here, the local businesses made it possible," said Moses Vasquez of Solid Knockout Promotions. "They backed it and supported it, and we came to bring the idea. It didn't take long for it to be born. They're yearning for big city entertainment, and it's finally here, so got to get ready. It's about to happen here in Beeville, Texas."

"We're hoping to have a big economic impact and also show the children that if they're involved in boxing, that this could be a positive thing, and this is what it's all about," Beeville Police Chief Joe Trevino said. "This is what hard work does. It pays off in the end, and hopefully keep some of these kids out of trouble and keep them off the streets."

The event will take place at the Bee County Expo Center. 50-percent of the proceeds will benefit the Beeville Police Department.
