For the fourth year in a row, the Corpus Christi Fire Department has won the coveted Blood Cup after coming out on top in the annual Guns and Hoses Challenge.
It's a fierce but friendly competition that pits the Fire Department against the Corpus Christi Police Department to see who can gather the most blood donations. Competition was close this year, but the police say that in this competition, there are no losers.
"As you know, if someone doesn't use a blood unit, they can break it apart and use it on whoever does need it," CCPD Assistant Chief Schauer said. "Congratulations to the Fire Department."
The friendly month-long competition brought in 330 units of blood, with firefighters bringing in 183 of those units.
