The Flour Bluff Fire Department's role in the city is expanding.

The volunteer based Flour Bluff Fire Department recently got a new fire truck and is planning a new station on Padre Island in the near future.

The new truck is more of a rescue truck with more space inside the vehicle, lighter more compact oxygen tanks built into the seats and struts that can support and lift 130,000 pounds versus the old equipment that could lift 4,000.

The department has nine full time employees and 15 volunteer fire fighters. The station has been helping out the Corpus Christi Fire Department more on Padre Island.

With Padre Island growing and more business with Schlitterbahn in the future, the Flour Bluff Fire Department is planning on building a second station near Bob Hall Pier off of SPID and Sea Pines Dr.

The fire department is still negotiating on the land, but if all goes as planned Flour Bluff Chief Dale Scott said within the next year construction for the station will hopefully begin.
