A funeral procession was interrupted after one of the vehicles in the motorcade decided to bow out early, slamming into a motorcycle police escort in the process.
It happened around noon Wednesday, at the intersection of Lipan and Tancahua. The Corpus Christi Police Department motorcycle officer was directing traffic to allow the funeral procession to move northbound on Lipan, when the driver of a blue car struck the cycle.
The accident happened just a few blocks away from where Police Chief Floyd Simpson and Mayor Joe Adame were having to lunch.
"The officer is fine. Scrapes and abrasions, nothing broken, thank God," Simpson said. "Nothing broken. His spirits are well. He'll be back to work probably tomorrow, just kind of scrapes and bruises. The citizen is fine. She's a little shaken up, obviously remorseful for cutting out of that procession."
The driver of the blue car was checked out by emergency medical technicians and released. She will be cited for the accident.
