Data dump will add over 21,000 coronavirus cases to Health Districts across Texas

Nueces County is expected to receive another data dump for older positive cases from March to August.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — During today's COVID-19 briefing by City-County officials, it was announced that another state data dump is on the way, which will change case numbers for our area.

Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez said the data dump is expected to hit as early as this weekend. Over 21,000 positive COVID-19 lab reports will be sent to health districts across Texas, including Nueces County.

According to Rodriguez, though the new positive results incoming will change our daily number count, most of the cases are not recent.

"These lab reports are older positive cases from March to August of 2020," Rodriguez said. "This has the potential to significantly increase our number of cases in Nueces County. Our staff will work through these to ensure that they are not duplicates."

Rodriguez also added that during yesterday's drive-thru testing at the health district, seven out of 32 individuals tested positive, bringing the county's positivity rate to 22-percent.
