CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Rockport-Fulton High School Senior Mitchell Anderson was surprised on Friday with a $48,000 scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin.
The university presented the "impact scholarship" to Anderson, a scholarship that is only awarded to about 40 students every year.
its given to students who really make a true impact in their community.
Anderson said, "I was thinking I'd have to be working full time, like 40 hours a week or more, like I'm doing right now in just high school just to pay for stuff. And even then I'd have to take out multiple student loans just to get through college and then with the job to pay it off afterward, but with this, I'll definitely get to have college paid for beforehand."
Anderson said he is looking forward to attending UT Austin this coming fall and will be studying computer science.
