65,000 jobs over the next five years. That's what Mayor Nelda Martinez says the city will need trained workers for.

Mayor Nelda Martinez was speaking to a group of business leaders Wednesday at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The event was called Industry Day. The idea was to attract business and industry leaders to form partnerships with the university for the purposes of training a labor pool.

Mayor Nelda Martinez, City of Corpus Christi, says,"So we need these collaborations, we need these partnerships in order for us to have an economic development fertile soil."

Luis Cifuentes, Research Commercialization Outreach at TAMU-CC, says,"Here at the university we develop I P, intellectual property through research. And that intellectual property can eventually become the kind of products that are marketed."

This was the first ever Industry Day event on the campus.
