It has often been called "the forgotten war," and on Wednesday, 64 years from the day the Korean War began, some local veterans who fought in that conflict were honored for their service.

The local Korean Chamber of Commerce hosted the appreciation celebration at the Korean Presbyterian Church. For those who served, the recognition was much appreciated.

"It's a good thing to be here with many of my friends that I served with," Korean War Veteran Dick Prewett said. "We are happy to be here."

"I was, 61 years ago, I was in Korea, and I was only an 18-year old man then," Korean War Veteran Adan Alaniz, Jr., said. "We are proud that they are honoring us."

A special lunch of Korean food was also served following Wednesday's ceremony.
