Joined by a group of local Ford Mustang owners, Rick McGraw hopped in his 1965 Ford Mustang and made his way out of town Monday morning to take part in the Mustangs Across America drive.

Mustang enthusiasts from all over the country will be taking part in the drive to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang's debut. It will start in California and end in North Carolina.

McGraw found his 1965 Mustang under a tarp in Conway, Ark., and rebuilt it, replacing the 4-T engine with a 5-T. His car has been on display at the AutoNation Ford in the 6200 block of SPID since late March. AutoNation has sponsored McGraw to take part in the Mustangs Across America drive, and at 11 a.m. Monday, McGraw left the dealership to head to Los Angeles, where the cross-country drive begins.

About 550 Mustangs will be participating in the drive of a lifetime.
