A local youth group is making a huge difference for one local family.

A Corpus Christi family is getting some extreme help as part of the Christmas Extreme Makeover, which is something the youth group at St. John's United Methodist Church does every Christmas.

The family they chose this year has an autistic son with special needs.

In just two days, volunteers have added an outside deck for the young boy, and a playroom and a special bedroom with doors so mom and dad can see him from the living room.

"They will have a fresh start and safe environment for their son," said Catherine Albert, youth director at St. John's United. "The means to do things they need to do. It is going to mean a major transforming moment in their life."

The youth group returned to the site later on Wednesday for some finishing touches before the big unveiling.
