CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) — A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash Saturday night near the intersection of Ocean Drive and Ayers was identified Monday by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as 20-year-old Jake Herrera.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. Saturday. Police said the driver of a Jeep was turning onto Ayers from Ocean Drive. Herrera, who was traveling down Ocean Drive in the opposite direction, could not slow down in time to avoid crashing into the Jeep.

Police said Herrera laid the motorcycle down but was thrown from the bike and struck the Jeep. Witnesses on the scene administered CPR before Herrera was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

"It's not just one factor. It's a bunch of contributing factors to crashes. I understand you got a motorcycle, a lot of them are faster than most vehicles are, but that doesn't mean you should drive them that fast," CCPD Lt. Timothy Frazier said.

The driver of the Jeep was given a ticket for failing to yield the right of way.

Police said Herrera was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
