A Dodge Durango using Colorado license plates caused some concerns for residents in Aransas Pass Wednesday when they saw the vehicle pulling people over. Officials at the Aransas Pass Police Department received multiple calls from people who thought the vehicle was a person impersonating a police officer.

According to a Facebook post by the police department, the unmarked vehicle is a loaner vehicle being used by deputies with the Aransas County Sheriff's office after hurricane Harvey destroyed most of their fleet.

Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard says it is not uncommon for the department to use unmarked police vehicles to make traffic stops, but all law enforcement vehicles will display Texas license plates and have emergency lighting mounted all around the vehicle. "Further, our officers should be well identified and have their badge prominently displayed." according to the Facebook post.

Chief Blanchard goes on to say you should call the Aransas County Sheriff's Officer at 361-729-2222 if you have any questions or concerns.
