It's a shocking increase for the small community of Aransas Pass: Since the beginning of the year, that area has seen two traffic fatalities. In all of last year, they just had one.
Now, law officers in the area are stepping up efforts to make sure their streets are safe.
It's an edict coming straight Aransas Pass Police Chief Eric Blanchard. They are going to be looking for drivers on cell phones, drivers ignoring traffic signs and those who blow through school zones.
Police said the crackdown is not about handing out more tickets, but to make sure the roads are as safe as possible.
The new traffic enforcement campaign is said to be in effect now.
