Attorneys discuss complaints against law enforcement agencies

District Attorney Mark Gonzalez announced Monday the grand jury's decision not to indict Senior Officer Gilbert Cantu in the shooting of 23-year-old Richard Salazar.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After a Nueces County grand jury decided not to indict a Corpus Christi Police Department officer accused of a shooting a young man during a search for robbery suspects in March of this year, many in the community are discussing the use of force and how such cases are investigated.

District Attorney Mark Gonzalez announced Monday the grand jury's decision not to indict Senior Officer Gilbert Cantu in the shooting of 23-year-old Richard Salazar.

Local attorney Chris Gale has represented a number of clients who have had complaints against law enforcement agencies. He joined 3News at 5 p.m. to help explain the process in similar legal proceedings.

Nueces County First Assistant District Attorney Matt Manning also joined 3News at 6 p.m. to give his take on the case and what processes take place when a complaint is filed against a law enforcement agency.
