CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A group of beachgoers are putting their love for the environment to work and are asking for community support to continue their mission.

'Beach Keepers' has been around for just over a year but hundreds of members are already joining the cleanup.  The group has previously collected over a thousand pounds of trash.

According to organizers, they commonly find single-use plastic bottles,  fishing lines, and even deflated balloons along with areas such as Mustang Island State Park.

"This is part of our natural resources, and so when we come down here, I think that we should be super respectful not only clean the beaches that we're using but that around us as well," Carl Lee Alan said.

In the month of June, over 80 pounds of trash was collected at Mustang Island.
