It was a special day Thursday for the people with the Behavioral Health Center of Nueces County as they held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Center's new Port Avenue facility.

The 7,300-square-foot building will house services for veterans and for those who have gone through mental health therapy and are reacclimating into society. The Center's primary facility remains on Brownlee, but the new building marks the second phase of an expansion project.

"So this is really the second phase of our expansion. What we're really looking to do is branch out into the community. Our services historically have been a little bit more centralized to our primary location, so I think a branch out into the community," Mark Hendrix said. "This being the second phase of that process, we're going to better able to reach the people that we serve here in Nueces County."

The new Port Avenue facility can be found at 3733 South Port Avenue.
