Corpus Christi (KIII News) — For the tenth year, the Coastal Bend community came together for the DMC Foundation signature event -- Bernie's Famous Crawfish Boil.

The goal for the crawfish boil is to raise funds for Del Mar College students and enjoy plates of tasty crawfish. A silent auction and donations raise funds to help make dreams possible for Coastal Bend folks pursuing higher education.

"Scholarships make a big difference in everybody's lives because education costs money. But educations is the way to get ahead, so the most that we can do for the students in our community and be able to raise money for those scholarships really empowers people," said Karen Silba, development officer for DMC foundation.

The foundation issued more than $1.5 million in scholarships this past in year.
