Christmas came early for 60 children from the Calallen and Tuluso-Midway independent school districts as they met with law enforcement Tuesday to Shop with a Cop.

The program pairs officers up with children in need to go shopping for clothes, hygiene products, and a toy, all within a $125 budget.

The event is for children, but some of the little shoppers see the event differently.

"We look for things for our grandma, parents, grandparents, cousins," first-grader Zanette Edwards said. "It's so nice because we're helpful. We're thankful for other people, and we like to share."

"They're not selfish with what they want either," Sr. Officer Javier Cantu said. "They purchase for other people in their family, other than just themselves. It helps us realize we're doing a very good thing out here."

Officers with the program said they expect to help more families this year due to Hurricane Harvey.
