Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The week of May 7 is National Nurses Week, and on Monday nurses held a solemn candlelight ceremony at Christus Spohn South Texas.
At the ceremony, nurses gathered and discussed why they chose their profession and shared their favorite nursing experiences.
Nurses week started as a way of honoring Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
"It's an exciting time to get together, celebrate and rededicate ourselves," said Lisa Cox, chief nursing officer. "To influence, to inspire, to innovate, so tonight was how we're going to inspire ourselves for the year to come."
National Nurses Week runs until May 12 and that day happens to be Nightingale's birthday.
