Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Islanders teamed up Wednesday with the Del Mar College Vikings to deliver students support and tools to reach academic success.

TAMUCC President Dr. Kelly Qunitinilla and Del Mar College President Dr. Mark Escamilla met for a signing ceremony for the Viking to Islander program, which aims to assist students transitioning from Del Mar College to TAMUCC.

Students will be able to take a course at the Island University, attend games, and even live on campus while finishing up classes at Del Mar College.

According to Dr. Escamilla, the partnership will help students achieve their education.

"It's an opportunity for our community through this program to bring students in who can benefit from both institutions by way of entering as a prospective student," Dr. Escamilla said.

Dr. Qunitinilla is thankful for the growing partnership between both institutions.

"Dr. Escamilla and I are very committed to being partners in everything we do, not for the advantage for either institution but for the advantage of the students. We believe in doing the right thing and that way we'll benefit certainly both our institutions but students are number one," Dr. Quintinilla said.

The Viking to Islanders program will help students through the first two semesters of college.
