Morning grass fire burns 15 acres of land on Padre Island

Officials believe low hanging power lines are to blame, but have not yet determined the official cause.

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) — An early morning brush fire Tuesday left 15 acres of land on Padre Island scorched.

The fire broke out just after 4 a.m. near Fire Station 15 on Commodore Drive, near Aquarius. Three brush trucks were able to put out the fire in about 20 minutes.

"Wind wasn't too bad. Terrain was very soft. Some of the trucks were getting stuck, so basically soft sand was the biggest problem," Nueces County ESD #2 Fire Chief Dale Scott said.

Officials believe low hanging power lines are to blame, but have not yet determined the official cause.
