City Council is hearing about a possible solution to a lack of affordable housing in this city through manufactured homes.

Council heard a presentation Tuesday afternoon from a landowner who wants a zoning change to allow for manufactured housing on vacant lots.

Andy Taubman, who chaired the City's ad hoc Streets Committee, said the biggest misconception is that the homes are ugly. He showed some pictures and a floor plan of such a home.

Many spoke at public comment both for and against the idea, which could make its debut in Flour Bluff.

Council has been trying to find solutions to the lack of affordable housing, and Taubman said these manufactured homes could eventually replace some small pier and beam houses that are in disrepair without impacting neighborhood property values.
