Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The Nueces County sheriff had one of his first public speaking engagement on Thursday for the Del Mac College 2018 commencement American Bank Center.\
John-Chris Hooper delivered the commencement speech to the graduating class of Del Mar College.
"My mom and a lot of family members but the staff at Driscoll Children's Hospital for taking care of my little one who watched my son who just had surgery two days ago and is ICU so I'm grateful and blessed that they are taking care of him so I could be here today," graduate Tamra Hanson said.
Nearly 800 associate degrees and certificates were handed out from Del Mar College.
