Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The Del Mar College Viking mascot Valdar dressed up as Santa Wednesday to help deliver some Christmas spirit to foster children living in South Texas.

Students and Faculty with the Early Childhood Development program came together to help create Sweet Cases.

Sweet Cases are 41- large duffle bags for foster children to use as they move from home to home.

According to organizers, many foster children are only given a trash bag to carry around their belongings, so the program wanted to change that.

Organizers for Wednesday's event helped sweeten the deal by filling the duffle bags with items.

"Crayons, colors, markers, toys. But also things that they need like underwear, toothbrushes, socks, night lights, and pillowcases. Things that children need in these foster homes," associate professor Amy Mintz said.

The bags will go to the Foster Angels of South Texas to help brighten the kid's lives.
