Corpus Christi (KIII News) — Del Mar College students got to put their makeup skills to the test Tuesday with a little help from a professional makeup artist.

Ava Gibbs-Kamaria is a makeup artist who has worked in film, TV and theatre. She took over the college's drama department makeup class to give out her tips and tricks for the perfect Halloween look.

According to Gibbs-Kamaria, it's all about spreading information and basic knowledge from the field to the classroom. One of the things Gibbs-Kamaria emphasizes is sanitation and what it can mean if you don't properly sanitize.

"All of these kids nowadays are wanting to wear the contact lenses. Contact lenses, if they're not obtained from an optometrist, can actually make eye ulcers," Gibbs-Kamaria said.

Students got to show off their skills and what they learned by "modeling" during a zombie walk.

Gibbs-Kamaria wants students to know that it's a profession where you're always learning.
