It's tax season and a group of Del Mar College students are offering free help with your taxes starting Tuesday.

Accounting students will help make sense of the different filing forms that can be a struggle for a lot of people in the Coastal Bend. Paying for an accountant to prepare returns may not be part of people's budget. That is why the students are doing it for free.

The free service is offered through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, program. The free tax service will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays until April 12 at the Venture Business Building in Room 201.

The services are on a first-come-first-served basis for Coastal Bend filers who make less than $66,000 per year.

For people recovering from Hurricane Harvey, the IRS has determined that returns with disaster loss claims are outside of VITA's score.
