Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, a partnership between Exxon-Mobil and SABIC, awarded $54,000 in scholarship money to Del Mar College's process technology program Wednesday.
The money will benefit 17 students.
The goal of Del Mar College's process technology program is to ensure a competent, qualified workforce. On Wednesday, students demonstrated the knowledge and skills they have acquired through the program.
"I decided to come to Del Mar College because of their hands-on training that you get in class. We have a pilot plant that resembles a unit in the refinery, so we get that feeling of being in a refinery before we even get out there," Sabrina Lamb said.
Students in the program graduate in May and employment in their field comes with an average salary of $90,000 year.
