Dr. Hector P. Garcia (1914-1996) ranks among the most important figures in Mexican American history. Garcia was a physician, soldier, political advisor, and civil rights activist, who founded the American GI Forum in 1948 to organize veterans to fight for educational and medical benefits. In 1982, he began to donate his vast collection of personal papers to the Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Today, this collection --a centerpiece of the library's holdings-- offers invaluable insight into the Mexican American experience of the 20th century and the ways in which Dr. Garcia shaped and changed that experience. Celebrate the return of the papters Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Mary and Jeff Bell Library at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The event is free and open to the public.
