Fans for Friends Drive aims to help families in need stay cool this summer

With the help of your donations, the family will be able to live more comfortable during the hot summer months.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Kiii-TV is once again teaming up with the Salvation Army of the Coastal Bend for the annual Fans for Friends Drive.

It all takes place from 5 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Friday right in front of the Kiii-TV studios at 5002 SPID.

The goal of the drive is to provide those without access to adequate air conditioning to fight the heat and keep cool this summer.

The Mata family has been enduring some of the hottest temperatures with no air conditioning these past few months. The family of nine has been trying to watch their budget, saving anywhere they can.

"The bill comes out real high sometimes, so rather just use the windows," the Matas said.

But it hasn't been easy.

"Usually go outside for a while when the sun goes down or something," the Matas said. "The humidity especially has been terrible this summer."

With the help of your donations, the family will be able to live more comfortable during the hot summer months.

You can donate fans any time between 5 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Friday right outside the Kiii-TV studios.
