Corpus Christi (KIII News) — Selena fans come from all over the world for Fiesta de la Flor, but before the festivities begin they visit the Queen of Tejanos landmarks.

Her gravesite had dozens of visitors at a time paying their respects Friday, and her statue on Shoreline had groups of people huddling together to take pictures. Many wore Selena t-shirts. Some even dressed as her.

Julio Castellanos set himself apart by singing one of his favorite Selena songs. He came all the way from California to celebrate at Fiesta de la Flor with people he has never met in person. That's because he is a part of many Selena Facebook fan pages.

"It's really great to finally meet, share our stories, you know. Selena has impacted us in so many ways, and I love hearing those stories from other people," Castellanos said.

At her gravesite at Seaside Memorial Park, more fans were gathered Friday. Isamar Ortiz was there and saw Selena's headstone for her first time.

"It's kind of surreal. It kind of makes it sink in that she was just a regular person like the rest of us, and she was and still is an amazing role model," Ortiz said.

So much of a role model it made an impression on Ortiz's mother, who met Selena in Angleton, Texas.

"My mom told her, she didn't know at the time she was pregnant, my mom told Selena and of course Selena was still super, super young," Ortiz said. "She hadn't become famous yet, but she said 'I hope I have a daughter like you one day.'"
