First Lady Trump, Second Lady Pence arrive in Coastal Bend

First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Karen Pence arrived in the Coastal Bend Wednesday to meet with families affected by Hurricane Harvey and the first responders who are part of the recovery effort.

First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady Karen Pence arrived in the Coastal Bend Wednesday to meet with families affected by Hurricane Harvey and the first responders who are part of the recovery effort.

During the visit they are expected to hold a meet-and-greet with first responders who have played a role in the recovery efforts since the storm. They are then expected to meet a Rockport family who lost their home in the storm. They will see the remains of that family's home, along with the FEMA manufactured home the family is living in now.

Trump and Pence are also expected to make a trip to Charlie Marshall Elementary School in Aransas Pass to speak with students and faculty who were affected by the storm.

The two will end their visit with a stop at a local food bank to meet with volunteers and help sort boxes.

10:30 p.m.: First Lady Trump and Second Lady Pence arrived at the Corpus Christi International Airport and met with first responders who have played a role in the hurricane recovery efforts.

They departed from the airport around 11:15 a.m. to make their way to Rockport.

12 p.m.: The motorcade arrived at what remains of a residence on Corpus Christi Street in Rockport. The family who once lived there got to meet with First Lady Trump and Second Lady Pence, along with other state officials.

Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush and Cecilia Abbott, wife of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, were also there to speak.

12:30 p.m.: Trump and Pence arrived in Aransas Pass at Charlie Marshall Elementary School, one of many schools that were affected by Hurricane Harvey. There they spoke to a class of students and their teacher, who explained that her students were learning about the difference between facts and opinions.

2 p.m.: The motorcade made its way from Aransas Pass back to Corpus Christi where Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Pence made a stop at the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

Trump and Pence both met with Bea Hanson, Executive Director of the Coastal Bend Food Bank, who explained who the Food Bank serves and how they function. Trump and Pence both helped sort donations into boxes for a while before leaving for the airport.

2:40 p.m.: The motorcade made a surprise stop at the Whataburger on Old Brownsville Road so that First Lady Trump and Second Lady Pence could grab a bite to eat.

The First Lady sent bags filled with french fries to the press van. The fries were gone quickly.

3:10 p.m.: Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Pence returned to the Corpus Christi International Airport for their return flight to Washington D.C.
