Highway 77 traffic bust nets Jim Wells County $215,000

Those funds were used to buy equipment needed by the Sheriff's Office to include binoculars, safety glasses, and safety kits.

JIM WELLS COUNTY, Texas — Kleberg County Sheriff Richard Kirkpatrick hand-delivered a huge check to Jim Wells County Sheriff Danny Bueno on Wednesday. It was all part of a new agreement between the two agencies.

The check was for $215,000. It represents the combined efforts of both agencies to try and stop the flow of drugs and cash through the area.

One of those stops along Highway 77 turned up $500,000. Jim Wells County received Wednesday its part of the money seized in that stop.

"It's just a very good program in place through the different Southern District of Texas where sheriffs have united to work together," Bueno said.

Jim Wells County was also recently awarded $3,000 from the Texas Association of Counties. Those funds were used to buy equipment needed by the Sheriff's Office to include binoculars, safety glasses, and safety kits.
