Humane Society reminds residents to bring pets indoors

The Humane Society is always happy to accept donations like blankets for the dogs and cats at the shelter.

Corpus Christi (KIII News) — As cold temperatures make their way to the Coastal Bend, the Gulf Coast Humane Society wants residents to remember their pets.

"The biggest thing is it's best to keep your animal inside, at least at night, and not leave them out unattended too long. However, if you have an animal you keep outside on a regular basis, the best thing is to make sure they have shelter from the wind," Sharon Ray said.

For outdoor pets that stay in a dog house, residents need to remember the best way to keep them safe and dry is to elevate them off the cold, wet ground. According to Ray, a good idea is also to add some hay or a sweater that can also keep the animals nice and warm.

The absolute best advice is to bring pets indoors.
