Jim Wells County's first confirmed COVID-19 case has been residing in Nueces County

This would have been the first known case of COVID-19 living in Jim Wells County. Nueces County officials have been notified and are handling the case.

JIM WELLS COUNTY, Texas — Editor's Note: The video that accompanies this story aired Sunday evening prior to the following updates from officials in Jim Wells County.

Jim Wells County Judge Juan Rodriguez, Jr. and the Jim Wells County Office of Emergency Management announced Sunday evening that they received notice of the confirmed case of COVID-19 in their county.

However, on Monday afternoon officials announced they had discovered that the patient, whose listed permanent address was near Orange Grove in the norther part of Jim Wells County, has actually been living in Nueces County for the last few months.

This would have been the first known case of COVID-19 living in Jim Wells County. Nueces County officials have been notified and are handling the case.

At this time, it is not known if the case is travel-related or from person-to-person contact in the community.

Jim Wells County officials initially reported the patient is a female between the ages of 20-25.
