JIM WELLS COUNTY, Texas — There is some concern over an alleged scam going around in Northeast Jim Wells County. A woman there is allegedly going around asking for donations in the name of a fallen U.S. Marine.

According to Jim Wells County Constable's Office Precinct 5, the suspect is asking for donations for Marine Lance Corporal Jose L. Maldonado from Mathis. Maldonado was killed in action on December 17, 2010 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. The family of Maldonado say they do not know the woman asking for donations and have not received anything from her.

The family added they they are not even asking for donations for anything. The woman is described as a short Hispanic woman in her 60's. The constable says she has long thin hair and is supposedly carrying and showing the picture of Maldonado.

Anyone that comes into contact with her is asked not to donate to her and contact authorities.
