CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Members of a favorite 24-hour gym are speaking out Tuesday night after learning that two locations in Corpus Christi had shut their doors for good.
Members of Flex Fit Gym 24/7 got the news of the shutdown as they arrived for a workout.
"I got an email saying just telling us that how we were with them for a couple of years, but they are closing down their doors," Ruday Ojeda said.
Ojeda is just one of the hundreds of Flex Fit Gym members who found out he could no longer workout because the business had closed down.
On Monday athletes walked up to locked doors to find the following notice:
"First I want to acknowledge the disappointment that any of you may feel due to the lack of advanced notice. unfortunately, when it comes to business arrangements, things do not work out ideally."
Ojeda hoped there should have been a warning.
"I guess maybe a warning — a couple of months ahead. Given us an idea like what's gonna happen," Ojeda said.
3News reached out to Flex Fit on why they closed but have not received a callback. 3News found a lawsuit filed by the state of Texas on April 4 against Flex Fit Gym, and it's owner Aaron Pineda.
"The prices don't change, if you had a 10 or 20 dollar membership at flex that's what you will have at freedom fitness," Freedom Fitness manager Jake Garry said.
Ojeda is concerned about how Flex Fit was able to transfer his credit card information.
"I just wanna see how that's if any case is legal to do like transfer someone's information towards another billing process," Ojeda said.
According to Freedom Fitness managers, they welcome any Flex Fit member to any of their locations and are welcome to cancel their membership at no cost.
"If you know people want to cancel because of the situation. we completely, we have compassion for the situation," Garry said.
The YWCA is offering former Flex Fit members a whole month free access to their gym facilities ending May 31.
