Mothers lobby City Council for park improvements

Council members will have a workshop to look at park improvements next week.

Corpus Christi (KIII news) — Several mothers with children in tow descended on City Council Tuesday to lobby for improvements to City parks.

"We were here in our community," said Mandy Cox, an advisory committee member for parks and recreation.

Cox helped draft a bond proposal to add more than $7 million in extras for City parks to make them more mom and heat friendly.

"It's hot here," Cox said. "The kids down."

"I've lived here," Marissa Ettington said. "To show that."

"And I'm seeing," Alyce Oblad said. "Just so hot."

According to the Parks & Recreation Director Jay Ellington, the cheapest splash pad costs around $75,000 so it will have to be something extra paid for by citizens.

"We had a good recreation area," Ellington said.

Public meetings are being held in July for citizen's input on the department's master plan. Council members will have a workshop to look at park improvements next week.
