This year's Coastal Bend Day of Giving supports 50 area nonprofits on the forefront of assisting those in need, and West Side Helping Hand is one of them.
From West Side Helping Hand:
"Two years ago our after school program had 25-35 students everyday. Now our afterschool program has 130-145 students everyday with 60 on our waitlist.
The children in our program are monitored and assisted by our staff members as they finish their assigned homework, exercises designed by our program, and quiet time reading. After they are finished studying, a free time is allotted for games and sports outside. Furthermore, our chef prepares a meal for each of our students. They learn how to prepare these meals in our weekly Kids Cooking Club and additional skills in our reading club, math club, science club, art club, chess club, sewing club, and running club.
Our students receive a vast amount of individual care and attention every day from our staff. Last academic year 100% of our students showed improvement in their academics and in their behavior. The individual academic help, life skills, and character formation allows them to lead secure and successful lives."
